What to do
In the heart of the traditional unspoilt English village of Coln St Aldywns, the Inn is within easy reach of Cirencester, Cheltenham, Swindon, Oxford and Bath. Queen Elizabeth I first decreed that there should be a resting place within a day’s ride of London, with The New Inn providing the staging post to the West. Today, twenty monarchs later, the Inn still plays host to those looking for a refuge from the pressures of life. Near at hand there are wonderful walks through the beautiful Cotswold countryside and idyllic villages – and cycling for those who wish to explore further. We can offer you fishing on our doorstep – in the river Coln – and we are happy to arrange clay pigeon shooting and even a day’s introductory course to the king’s sport of Polo . A short drive from the hotel will take you to plethora of interesting places to visit and things to do, including stately homes like Sudeley Castle and Bourton House, the Cotswold Wildlife Park, Chedworth Roman Villa, the Cotswold Water Park – and of course all the wonderful shopping to be had in Cheltenham and Cirencester. The Romantic Road offers carefully planned routes through the Cotswolds, where country roads wind through towns and villages of honey-coloured stone. In an area rich in history and natural beauty like the Cotswolds, it is sometimes difficult for visitors, even those who have been before, to get to know the country roads and traditional villages. The Romantic Road provides touring routes that are easy to follow and which trace the tales of the many artists, writers and craftspeople who have drawn inspiration from the Cotswolds. It shows off the loveliest villages and landscapes, reflecting the romance of their history and literary heritage. |
