Testimonials

9th August - Trip Advisor - Quiet village location but near many 'honey pots' in the Cotswolds. The rooms were lovely and just a bit different giving the place real character. We took the half board option, evening meal was excellent as was the breakfast (nice to see the hang over drinks on the menu). The staff were great and very helpful. Really couldn't have asked for more.

29th July 2010 - Trip Advisor - We stayed for one night on a last minute booking deal, turning up on Friday night in time for dinner. The room was lovely - nice quality toiletries, smart bedding and well laid out. The ensuite was small but perfectly formed with a decent shower. Everything looked clean and fresh.

Dinner (included in our excellent rate) was lovely with friendly service from the young team. The wine was excellent though we had to wait a fair while for it to chill because it had not been stored in a cold place. But overall a lovely meal with generous but not overwhelming portions.

Lovely place to stay to be within striking distance of Cirencester and Fairford. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Late Rooms Review - June 2010 - If you're looking for a very comfortable, luxury room, with wonderfully friendly, efficient staff, superb fine pub style dining, in serene quiet surroundings, with an excellent breakfast to set you up for the next days work or play, look no further! The New Inn is the place to be.
Thanks to everyone for making work feel like pleasure.

21st June 2010 - Trip Advisor - What a delighful place to stay. We loved our room with its high ceiling, exposed beams and stone returns on the windows. The area is beautiful with a wonderful walk along the River Coln to the next village along, Bibury.

The staff couldn't have been more helpful. From the first contact with the manager, who showed us to our room, to the friendly staff at breakfast, we were made to feel most welcome. Great flexibility as well. We were initially unable to take advantage of a special offer steak night so the staff were willing to keep 2 steaks for us for the following night.

Lovely food. The breakfast was extra special with a wide choice of cooked food as well as a specially prepared muesli.
would definitely go back again.

18th May 2010 - I believe it is really important to let people know when you have had great service, and for many people this does not happen due to busy lives and personal commitments.

We stayed here as part of a wedding group that hired the hotel for the whole weekend. I was so pleasantly surpirsed. Our room was WONDERFUL - I only wish we had had more time to enjoy it! Lovely roll top bath, sleigh bed. Very quiet etc. Attention to detail was a strong point. Food was great, and the staff were wonderful. We will go back to enjoy on our own at some point.

6th February 2010 - Trip Advisor - This was the 4th time that we have stayed at the New Inn since 1994 and as is common with this type of Inn, they can go through a number of changes in their appeal and performance, usually as a result of a change in owner, decor, ethos, chef etc.....Well having just returned from the New Inn, I feel compelled to write my first review on Tripadvisor. Our stay was 2 nights in surely one of the most beautiful areas in Britain. We had a fantastic time. The room, food and drink were all excellent, but above all else, the most outstanding thing about the New Inn was the attitude of the staff. Everyone had a smile on their face and could not have been more helpful. Having worked in frontline high street retail for 25 years, I totally understand how demanding we all are and how this constant need from the general public can grind you down. So WELL DONE! staff at the New Inn....I know it is hard work, but keep smiling and carry on with the positive attitude. Cheers.

I believe it is really important to let people know when you have had great service, and for many people this does not happen due to busy lives and personal commitments.

However, I had the pleasure of staying with you last week and had the most enjoyable time.

I cannot express how courteous all, and I mean all, the food and beverage staff were, from the young gentleman behind the bar who had the patience to serve an older resident and allow him to sample all your draft bitter, the young lady who served our meal smiling and cheerful, to the, I assume manager on duty, who had to gain access to our room due to a leak in the bar and all the breakfast staff in the morning, some of them had worked the night before.  All of them were smiling and well-mannered.

The food was superb, compliments to the chef, wine list was comprehensive, the Brouilly complemented our meal well, and staff service again was attentive but not intrusive.

I had a wonderful nights break and I am so pleased I have found this fantastic haven to stay in and I must compliment you and your team again on wonderful service and standards, it was a pleasure to stay with you and I would appreciate it if you would pass my compliments on to your team, they do a brilliant job of which you should be proud.

I will truly recommend you to others and will certainly be back for another night, hopefully in the not so distant future.

Once again thank you.  The New Inn, certainly is a quirky luxury.  I can not compliment you enough.

Thank you.

January 2010 - The Good Hotel Guide - In a pretty Cotswold village, this 400-year-old inn has been refurbished throughout, retaining many original features (flagstone and wooden floors, oak beams, etc). The dining room, with brick red and cream walls, has three eating areas. The chef, Oliver Addis, serves a seasonally changing dinner menu with daily specials. 'These were the pick of an excellent meal,' said an inspector. 'A tasty ham hock terrine with pear chutney; the freshest pollack on a leek risotto; a wonderful apple and pear crumble with a tiny baked Alaska. The Italian house wines were especially good.’ The bedrooms vary in size and style. 'Our spacious first-floor room had a bright red carpet and back wall, with a black bedcover and furniture.’ The four-mile walk along the river to Bibury has been described by our readers as 'delightful'. Sounds like just the thing for Sunday morning, to work up an appetite for lunch.

2nd November 2009 - Trip Advisor - Just a few words to say how much I enjoyed my recent stay at the New Inn. I managed to book a 'celebration package' at the last minute, which included a lovely room with king-size bed and free-standing bathtub, and bottle of good-quality champagne. The dinner, bed and breakfast tariff was amazingly good value, particularly having decided to try the 5 or 6 course 'tasting menu' for dinner. The food was absolutely superb, and there is an extensive (and not too extortionate) wine list. The staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. Highly recommended!

15th October2009 - Late Rooms Review - I stayed here for 2 nights, as a solo female traveller on business, and loved this place. I was upgraded to a delightful room (14) with both bath and walk in shower (Thank you !).
Breakfasts and the evening meal were all cooked to order and of a high standard - delicious.
Plenty of parking, flat screen tvs, cafetieres and complimentary vodka tots in the room, but delightfully decorated and furnished with lots of character and high comfort levels.
The staff were friendly and helpful, the bar has a nice ambience.
Would definitely recommend and will probably return for leisure visit. I booked though laterooms website and got an excellent price.

A Very Special Place - 27th September Trip Advisor - We had a really wonderful time here. We had eaten here previously but this was our first stay - we have already booked again for my birthday. An enquiry regarding availavlity of a room with bath rather than shower resulted in an immediate and free upgrade to a deluxe room - very beautifully and individually decorated and superbly comfortable. Food was fantastic. What really makes it special is the staff - young, charming, friendly and efficent, nothing is too much trouble. A special mention for the fantastic young at heart receptionist, a mine of useful information and with her own dry and quirky take on life. A really wonderful place that knocks spots off a nearby establishment ( long estabolished, it shall remain nameless!) that is three times the price and nowhere near as good in every way.

25 Sep 2009 - Trip Advisor - "Had a wonderful weekend at the New Inn - having read the Observer review I thought it would make a great treat for my husband for his birthday and he was thrilled"

29 Jul 2009  Trip Advisor  - "This really was a great place to stay. My wife and i spent two nights at the New Inn to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary. It wasn't cheap but i believe good value for money.

The restaurant, bar and sun terrace were all great and the service offerred by the young staff was excellent.

Coln St Aldwyn is basically a beautiful village with the New Inn, a village shop and a few cottages. If this is what you want. This is the place for you."

The Shooting Gazette - March 2009 - The charming village of Coln St.Aldwyn’s is everything you expect from the Cotswolds; limestone cottages, church on the hill, and the river Coln gently meandering through it all.

We arrived at the new inn on one of the coldest days of the winter – a January Saturday when frost had rendered the British countryside utterly stunning. After a good walk along the banks of the river to the neighbouring village of Bibury we stopped in the bar for a refreshment, along with the members of the local shoot who were in good spirits. It acted as a reminder that, apart from being celebrity rich, this area has many excellent shoots.

The hotel is part of Hillbrooke Hotels who also own the tremendous Bath Arms at Horningsham and the Elephant at Pangbourne. All three come under the ‘boutique’ tag and have bag loads of individual charm. However, The New Inn has the best food of the lot.

We enjoyed warm pigeon salad, butternut squash risotto, game pie and belly of pork with bubble and squeak. With first class service and a decent bottle of Malbec it would be hard to pick fault with this meal.

There are 13 individually designed rooms and we stayed in a room above the restaurant in the main building, but there are others in the old stable block. With a comfortable bed and flat screen television the only problem in our room was lack of an effective shower in the bathroom – but each en suite has different facilities.

It’s a charming hotel and they are also offering some excellent combined dining and accommodation deals. For more details:
