6th February 2010 - Trip Advisor
This was the 4th time that we have stayed at the New Inn since 1994 and as is common with this type of Inn, they can go through a number of changes in their appeal and performance, usually as a result of a change in owner, decor, ethos, chef etc.....Well having just returned from the New Inn, I feel compelled to write my first review on Tripadvisor. Our stay was 2 nights in surely one of the most beautiful areas in Britain. We had a fantastic time. The room, food and drink were all excellent, but above all else, the most outstanding thing about the New Inn was the attitude of the staff. Everyone had a smile on their face and could not have been more helpful. Having worked in frontline high street retail for 25 years, I totally understand how demanding we all are and how this constant need from the general public can grind you down. So WELL DONE! staff at the New Inn....I know it is hard work, but keep smiling and carry on with the positive attitude. Cheers.
The Good Hotel Guide - January 2010
In a pretty Cotswold village, this 400-year-old inn has been refurbished throughout, retaining many original features (flagstone and wooden floors, oak beams, etc). The dining room, with brick red and cream walls, has three eating areas. The chef, Oliver Addis, serves a seasonally changing dinner menu with daily specials. 'These were the pick of an excellent meal,' said an inspector. 'A tasty ham hock terrine with pear chutney; the freshest pollack on a leek risotto; a wonderful apple and pear crumble with a tiny baked Alaska. The Italian house wines were especially good.’ The bedrooms vary in size and style. 'Our spacious first-floor room had a bright red carpet and back wall, with a black bedcover and furniture.’ The four-mile walk along the river to Bibury has been described by our readers as 'delightful'. Sounds like just the thing for Sunday morning, to work up an appetite for lunch.

Just a few words to say how much I enjoyed my recent stay at the New Inn. I managed to book a 'celebration package' at the last minute, which included a lovely room with king-size bed and free-standing bathtub, and bottle of good-quality champagne. The dinner, bed and breakfast tariff was amazingly good value, particularly having decided to try the 5 or 6 course 'tasting menu' for dinner. The food was absolutely superb, and there is an extensive (and not too extortionate) wine list. The staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. Highly recommended!

We thoroughly enjoyed our comfortable stay here. Staff were very kind in changing our initial room - low beams were danger to my elderly tall husband but we were shown other rooms and got one which was perfect. Dinner was excellent as was breakfast. For such an old building everywhere was spotlessly clean, amazing and such a rare achievement to find today. Thank you so much everyone. 15th October2009 - Late Rooms Review
I stayed here for 2 nights, as a solo female traveller on business, and loved this place. I was upgraded to a delightful room (14) with both bath and walk in shower (Thank you !). Breakfasts and the evening meal were all cooked to order and of a high standard - delicious. Plenty of parking, flat screen tvs, cafetieres and complimentary vodka tots in the room, but delightfully decorated and furnished with lots of character and high comfort levels. The staff were friendly and helpful, the bar has a nice ambience. Would definitely recommend and will probably return for leisure visit. I booked though laterooms website and got an excellent price. A Very Special Place - 27th September Trip Advisor
We had a really wonderful time here. We had eaten here previously but this was our first stay - we have already booked again for my birthday. An enquiry regarding availavlity of a room with bath rather than shower resulted in an immediate and free upgrade to a deluxe room - very beautifully and individually decorated and superbly comfortable. Food was fantastic. What really makes it special is the staff - young, charming, friendly and efficent, nothing is too much trouble. A special mention for the fantastic young at heart receptionist, a mine of useful information and with her own dry and quirky take on life. A really wonderful place that knocks spots off a nearby establishment ( long estabolished, it shall remain nameless!) that is three times the price and nowhere near as good in every way.

"Had a wonderful weekend at the New Inn - having read the Observer review I thought it would make a great treat for my husband for his birthday and he was thrilled"

"This really was a great place to stay. My wife and i spent two nights at the New Inn to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary. It wasn't cheap but i believe good value for money.
The restaurant, bar and sun terrace were all great and the service offerred by the young staff was excellent.
Coln St Aldwyn is basically a beautiful village with the New Inn, a village shop and a few cottages. If this is what you want. This is the place for you."

"We stayed at this delightful old inn for just one night. The building is very old and interesting but has been given a very good modern twist with tasteful decor and interesting furniture in the bar and restaurant.
Our room was on the second floor which was a good choice and the decor was quite new, bathroom with roll top bath and it was all well equipped with everything you would want including bathrobes.
The location is off the beaten track in a very pretty village, lost in time and quite unspoiled - not at all touristy as it only has one shop. We enjoyed a walk around and saw the local inhabitants walking their dogs, watering their gardens and generally just enjoying their idyllic village life - quite Midsomer Murders!
The restaurant served first class food - the menu looked wonderful but we chose to eat in the bar. Again excellent food, well served and delicious wine. All in all an excellent place to stay and I would certainly stay there again and would definitely recommend it for a get away from the hub-bub and a taste of real village life for a moment in time."
The Shooting Gazette - March 2009
The charming village of Coln St.Aldwyn’s is everything you expect from the Cotswolds; limestone cottages, church on the hill, and the river Coln gently meandering through it all.
We arrived at the new inn on one of the coldest days of the winter – a January Saturday when frost had rendered the British countryside utterly stunning. After a good walk along the banks of the river to the neighbouring village of Bibury we stopped in the bar for a refreshment, along with the members of the local shoot who were in good spirits. It acted as a reminder that, apart from being celebrity rich, this area has many excellent shoots.
The hotel is part of Hillbrooke Hotels who also own the tremendous Bath Arms at Horningsham and the Elephant at Pangbourne. All three come under the ‘boutique’ tag and have bag loads of individual charm. However, The New Inn has the best food of the lot.
We enjoyed warm pigeon salad, butternut squash risotto, game pie and belly of pork with bubble and squeak. With first class service and a decent bottle of Malbec it would be hard to pick fault with this meal.
There are 13 individually designed rooms and we stayed in a room above the restaurant in the main building, but there are others in the old stable block. With a comfortable bed and flat screen television the only problem in our room was lack of an effective shower in the bathroom – but each en suite has different facilities.
It’s a charming hotel and they are also offering some excellent combined dining and accommodation deals. For more details: www.new-inn.co.uk
